Celebrations

To say that the past week and a half have been hectic would be quite an understatement. It was the end of an era as I finished my undergraduate career recently, started a move, and continue the search for that perfect job.

Graduations turned into holidays as we celebrated a surprisingly warm and sunny Memorial Day this week. There has been a lot to celebrate as I welcome the summer with open arms. Celebrations can be big or small, but they are always necessary! For me, a large celebration is not always needed- a bottle of good champagne and good company is perfect.

As the book closes on this major part of my life (how is college over?!) I am excited for the upcoming summer and future, but not without a nervous undertone. It is definitely an exciting time, however. In the meantime, I will be sure to be enjoying champagne by the pool and maybe even host a summer party.

Cheers!

Work Space

Readers asked me "where do you get all of your work done?" I thought it I would share my small corner where I sit down, crank out papers or blog posts, as well as just browse the internet. For me, I really get work done in two places- the library and at home. I tend to lean more towards the library, however, I set up a desk at home conducive to long hours of studying.

For me, a workspace is all about making it personal because is there really anything that exciting about doing finance problems at a desk for hours on end? I didn't think so either. My desk holds all the essentials- computer, printer, supplies, but has little personal touches all around.

My Jonathan Adler pencil holders are filled with Muji pens, a personal favorite. If you have not tried them I highly recommend. Additionally, we all know my love of champagne. I placed a bottle of Moet on my desk from a memorable night. When I get frustrated with all my work, its nice to glance at something associated with good memories.

The wall behind my desk is decorated with hints of Paris, another one of my favorite things. Perhaps I find myself daydreaming of Paris a little too often!

And you can be sure to find me, Muji pen in hand and Iced Nespresso in the other, jotting down quotes on the myriad of sticky notes around my desk.

Where do you get most of your work done?

The City is Buzzing

Spring does not seem to want to make an appearance and stay here in the Northeast. We have had a few nice days here and there, but generally snow in late March is not spring to me! We have been fortunate to have 2 days of absolutely gorgeous weather here this week.

It has been near 80 and sunny- perfect for moving that dreaded midterm studying outdoors and into the park. This weather can be a distraction in that its a taste of summer, but it is much needed here in what has been recently a quite grey New York.

Spring, can you please stay this time?

European Nostalgia

As the majority of my friends begin their departures over the next 2 weeks for semesters abroad, I cannot help but feel nostalgic for Europe and have regret for not doing a semester abroad as well. Why did I make this decision? It was part incompetent academic advisers and large part fear of living in another country alone so soon. Reflecting on this now, it would have probably been good for me to have the experience.

I would have gone to Paris, and finally become fluent in French. After studying it for 6 years one would think that he would be fluent, but that just does not seem to be the case! Paris me manque. J'y suis alle deux fois et je suis tombe en amour avec la ville. There is just something about Paris that you can only sense if you have been there. It would have been my home for 16 weeks, and Im sure it would have been filled with amazing experiences, not to mention all the other traveling I could have done.

So as all my friends prepare to embark on European adventures, Im just preparing to return to normal school. It will be weird without them, however, I hope amazing experiences will happen here so I can feel less regret about my decision.

I have come to this conclusion: I must try my hardest to make an appearance in Europe this spring. Looking at flights for spring break has already commenced...now i just have to get the parents on board!

Another Chapter Closed

I still haven't accepted that fact that another semester has finished. Its so true, it just keeps going by quicker and quicker with each semester. Although my workload seemed to quadruple this semester, I would not trade this semester for another. I met so many amazing new people that filled the space left by those who drifted apart from me.  There was lots of studying to be had, but there was also a lot of fun to be had as well. Here's a small look back at the fall semester.

It started out with Fashions Night Out, and I was very, very, close to Rachel Zoe

It was quite the party at Intermix Meatpacking

My life tended to revolve around dessert

A plaid-themed Tommy Hilfiger houseparty was hosted

I wore fur

Holiday parties were had by all

We donned Burberry

and in the end studied our lives away

Final Final

This morning was my final final...its pretty much killed me to say the least. I think I officially know now that I dont fully understand bonds, leases, stock, and stockholder equity. But that's all in the past. Th3 past 4 or 5 days my life was basically this:

But the fall semester has come to a close with me coming out of it not being able to think straight. Im off to the station to head home, anticipating this month of relaxing ahead!

See You on the Other Side

I'll see every one on the other side...of finals that is.  I unfortunately do not have the time right now to commit to making good posts because I need to focus everything I have on these last few days of the semester. After all, Business School is quite demanding. Im going to try to stick with the following motto for finals.

I will be back some time next week!

Crazy December

December is always a crazy month to begin with: all the holidays, traveling to see family, holiday shopping, trying not to gain 10 pounds. And for those of us in college, its the end of the semester and that also means finals.

This December is just a little more crazy because the weather has just been so awful! Im all about warm, nice weather, but when Im used to it being cold in December, I want it to be cold. Right now its 61 degrees and raining here in New York...on December 6th. Not normal!! Tomorrow its supposed to be a little cooler, and then by Thursday there is a slight chance for snow.

What's the point of all this? It never fails that when the weather fluctuates like this, I get sick. And here I am, all congested and with a slight sore throat. I dont have time to be sick right now. Here's to a day in the library armed with my "Cold Warrior" from Juice Generation.

December, cant you be just a little more normal??

Life in Business School

via

When I was unable to sleep last night I was thinking about, among many other things, what my life is like in one of the most competitive business schools in the country. Here's my reflection and thoughts:

It's no question that its is a high-stress and demanding life. At the moment when I finally finish everything on my to-do list, 5 more things are added and it seems to never actually go away. The highly competitive environment is quite exhausting. I feel the pressure to perfect everything, and everyone is trying to outsmart everyone else to beat the "curve"- not to mention pressure from parents to have that 4.0 because its whats expected of you.

Im the person that's rushing from here to there, plowing people over on the sidewalk to get to that next meeting all while responding to emails on my Blackberry. Speaking of Blackberry, its my lifeline. What would I do without be able to respond to emails about a strategic issue presentation on the go? The business students are the ones that have smartphone, laptop, iPad, and Starbucks in hand at all times. (This is me right now as I sit in the library).

What do we do when we cant sleep at night? I like to read my financial accounting textbook at 1am because you will always have a quiz within the next 3 days. Or you may try to plan out your schedule for the next 2 years of your life because you can just never be too prepared.

You never know when you will have to don your pinstripe suit. Lets be honest, everyone else at your firm will have either an Hermes or Ferregamo tie so you better too. I have to admit, I'm pretty sure we all try to out dress each other even if it is an 8am class....we are just far too competitive.

Our conversation are all about grades, internships, and careers:
"She interned at Goldman?!? How did she get that" "Her dad knows a departmental VP" "Oh, figures"
"Can you believe my professor was the CEO of X" "Yeah doesnt he own like 3 businesses?" "Im pretty sure thats is 750Li parked out front"

We sound like such fun people right? For the majority most of us are- of course there are those people that can never stop being serious and have a little fun.

I am not one of those people. I know how to have fun when the time is appropriate. All in all, life in business school is quite interesting.

Guest Post: Back to School Fashion

It's been a little bit of a crazy week here with all the rain, wind, and more rain....I definitely had to break out the fall clothes sooner rather than later. Classes also started yesterday. All my professors seem like great people...thats what I must keep thinking when I'm slaving away in the library.

Today, Im filling in for Allie over at Sundresses and Smiles. You can read my post about back to school fashion here. Let me know what you think!

speaking of fashion....

Its Fashion's Night Out here in New York. Not sure what my plans are exactly, but hopefully I will have a lot of good pictures to share tomorrow!

A Whole New Look and A Quiet Trip

My blog has a whole new look today....im so happy with it! :) What do you guys think?? It makes me feel so much more official. So thankful for blogging friends

I usually have stories about my bus trips such as this wonderful experience followed by this one here. However I got to leave a little bit earlier than normal so the bus only had about 10 people on it....so much better although there was no entertainment. I just got to listen to the apparently air powered windshield wipers go "shhhshhshs" for about 3 hours....i was going crazy by the end.

I've only been home for a few hours and its been so great minus the fact that when i got up this morning to check a grade on one of my Midterms I was very shocked to say the least. Anything under a 70 in my opinion is not really acceptable and is "failing"

so i sent the following email to my professor:

"I am severely concerned with my grade on the midterm. Has this grade already been curved? I took AP statistics in high school, and got an A on virtually every test and passed the AP exam as well. Thus, i know that i know statistics and have seen all this information before. With that said, I feel as though i should not be failing this statistics class, and would like to know how i can recover from this and do better in this class."

Clearly I am expressing a concern with my performance and want to do better... you think a professor would like this right??? Wrong

His repsonse:

"Nobody is failing the class. I will let you know what grade I am submitting to Albert as a Midterm grade"

Are you kidding??? He didnt even answer my most important question....What can i do to do better?!?!? I really cant stand when professors think they are higher than you based on the sole reason they are a professor so they can just ignore you ect. No, Im paying an obscene amount of money for your class, I want help.

I dont know what to do...any advice??

But on a positive note:

Have a great weekend!
