Nothing Beats A Check

In my opinion, there's not many things better than a little hint of that infamous British check showing on your outfit. The perfect combination of classic and preppy. Of all the British brands I love, Barbour, Jack Wills, Barker Black, Burberry is hands down my favorite.

My mild obsession with the iconic brand is evident in the fact that I already own a quilted jacket, a vest, a golf jacket, and a down ski jacket. However, a classic trench is still on my list. When the weather turns cold, the shades of tan, black, red, and white will be tied around my neck.

One must know how to have the right amount of check. Thinking about pairing your check rain boots, jacket, and scarf all at the same time? Please dont. You will look like you are trying too hard and ruin our favorite check for the rest of us.

Its a warm, rainy day in New York. Sounds like the perfect day to turn those cuffs up on that quilted jacket.

Color on Black Friday and Turning 1

While we didnt do our normal "midnight madness" at our usual spot (we all opted to sleep instead!) I did go to the mall...I mean I have to do at least a little shopping on Black Friday after all. I took the opportunity to visit the Lilly Pulitzer store and grab the men's resort stuff. You may remember me saying I wanted a few things.

You can never have too many polos

or too many ties. They will come in handy if I survive business school

Im just going to take a moment to wish my little blog a happy 1 year birthday :)...heres to a new year of hopefully interesting stories, expanding, and fun

Happy Thanksgiving

I'll be having two, yes two thanksgiving meals today. Separated by only a few hours...can someone say overload?! I hope everyone has a nice day with their closet family and friends wherever you may be traveling and is gearing up for some serious shopping tomorrow.

Here's just a few things I'm thankful for.....

my education
a supportive family
those true friends
my little blogging world
can I  be slightly materialistic and say my closet?? :)

sometimes it you feel like finding something to be thankful for is the hardest thing in the world, but we all have a least thats quite long.

P.S. my blog turns 1 tomorrow...i cant believe it!

Rainy Day Chic

Wednesday night I went to the Standard Grill with a few of my friends for my birthday. Earlier in the day I said to someone "ugh what am I going to wear...its raining now" If you know me, you know I always claim I have nothing to wear. It was the Standard Grill in the trendy meatpacking area so I had to find something good. My friend responded "do rainy day chic"...not sure what exactly rainy day chic is, but this is what I picked.

I went with a dark outfit since it was the evening and it was raining. Dark denim and a dark polo and blazer.

Rain Boots: Ralph Lauren
Denim: 7 for all Mankind
Belt: Hermes
Polo: Ralph Lauren
Blazer: Rag&Bone

I love the details on the blazer. Whats better than quilted elbow patches??

Eighty Years of a Colorful Life

Im sure we all know that today is Lilly Pulitzer's birthday....80th to be exact. We love her clothes and her bright colors. They are a staple in every preppy person's wardrobe. So happy birthday to her, and heres to more years of color.

I was looking at the new resort 2012 collection and love all the prints. The octopus one is my favorite. I must get the following from the men's line:

Life in Business School

via

When I was unable to sleep last night I was thinking about, among many other things, what my life is like in one of the most competitive business schools in the country. Here's my reflection and thoughts:

It's no question that its is a high-stress and demanding life. At the moment when I finally finish everything on my to-do list, 5 more things are added and it seems to never actually go away. The highly competitive environment is quite exhausting. I feel the pressure to perfect everything, and everyone is trying to outsmart everyone else to beat the "curve"- not to mention pressure from parents to have that 4.0 because its whats expected of you.

Im the person that's rushing from here to there, plowing people over on the sidewalk to get to that next meeting all while responding to emails on my Blackberry. Speaking of Blackberry, its my lifeline. What would I do without be able to respond to emails about a strategic issue presentation on the go? The business students are the ones that have smartphone, laptop, iPad, and Starbucks in hand at all times. (This is me right now as I sit in the library).

What do we do when we cant sleep at night? I like to read my financial accounting textbook at 1am because you will always have a quiz within the next 3 days. Or you may try to plan out your schedule for the next 2 years of your life because you can just never be too prepared.

You never know when you will have to don your pinstripe suit. Lets be honest, everyone else at your firm will have either an Hermes or Ferregamo tie so you better too. I have to admit, I'm pretty sure we all try to out dress each other even if it is an 8am class....we are just far too competitive.

Our conversation are all about grades, internships, and careers:
"She interned at Goldman?!? How did she get that" "Her dad knows a departmental VP" "Oh, figures"
"Can you believe my professor was the CEO of X" "Yeah doesnt he own like 3 businesses?" "Im pretty sure thats is 750Li parked out front"

We sound like such fun people right? For the majority most of us are- of course there are those people that can never stop being serious and have a little fun.

I am not one of those people. I know how to have fun when the time is appropriate. All in all, life in business school is quite interesting.

The Shawl Collar: An Essential

The shawl collar sweater is a staple in the preppy fall wardrobe. They are perfect for when a heavy jacket isn't needed, and transition into winter well as a great layer under an overcoat. My closet is filled with a variety of different styles of shawl collars- cardigans and pullovers. Pair one with denim and boots for the perfect fall outfit.

Denim: Paige Premium Denim

Dinner at Gemma

Upon starting school, I developed this huge fear of "freshmen 15." I became so careful of what I ate, mainly sticking to salads, fruits, and vegetarian options. Fortunately for me, I actually lost weight my first year.

You can drive yourself nuts over watching what you eat. Sometimes we just need to indulge a little, and I did just that the other night. Some friends and I went to Gemma at the Bowery Hotel. You may remember a little about the Bowery Hotel from this post a little while back.

Gemma is a classic Italian restaurant. They are famous for their thin crust pizzas, and the pasta is cooked to perfection. The inside has a very inviting rustic feeling with lots of wood and dim chandelier lighting.

I snapped some pictures from our night at Gemma with my Blackberry..hence the poor quality
