All Good Things Must Come to an End

Well its here: the unofficial (official) end to summer. I feel like I just started vacation 2 weeks ago. My staycation has come to an end and along with that comes the end to my summer vacation.
So here's a cheers to the last few nights of summer before I am completely in over my head with school work and an internship.

My favorite things this summer included the beach, tanning, dinners out, and new friends. However, my absolute favorite thing that I will miss is late summer evenings on the terrace with good company and wine.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

5 Random Monday Thoughts

Here we are- the last Monday in August, and for many the last Monday of summer. All good things must come to an end!

  • I've been on a mini "staycation" enjoying the last bit of time off I have before a crazy semester begins momentarily.
  • I'm so in love with summer nights in the city
  • A friend of mine over at Sweet Tea and Pinky RIngs is hosting a giveaway. I would love for you to go check it out...ends today!
  • I hope fall brings a breath of fresh air along with it
  • If there is one thing I've come to love and will miss as summer ends, its wine and cheese on the terrace in the evening

Preppy Style Goes European

Preppy style has been ever more present on the runways of major design houses. The traditional American made style is something we tend to associate with designers such as Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors. However, all the major European houses are embracing our classic, enduring style.

GQ recently featured preppy looks, all from European names. You can read the full article here.

Designers shown include Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Comme des Garcons, Jil Stuart, Etro, and Louis Vuitton to name a few.

Weekend in the Country

The city is so invigorating and filled with energy, but after a bit of time I find it to be extremely draining, even in the summer. I reached one of these points recently where all I could think about was getting out of the city, just for a bit of time. While most Manhattanites escape to the Hamptons on summer weekends, I escaped home to the country.

A simple, slow-paced way of life filled with greenery and fresh air. My major reasoning for having to go home wasnt great, but it was great to spend a bit of time at home. It was definitely needed before school is in full force...only 2 weeks away!! :(

Prep Staple: The Blazer

The blazer, arguably the most classic piece of clothing that hides in our closets. For fellow preps it is the staple in the khaki and oxford school uniform, a necessity at club dinners, and the go-to for everything else.
Ive actually been wearing them more than normal recently. Perhaps its because I've formed a bad habit of going to expensive restaurants that require jackets in the dinning room? Anyway, I love them nonetheless. My favorite blazer in my closet is the following from Jack Wills, London:

This blazer screams preppy with the navy and red stripes. Very Chuck Bass if I do say so myself.

Im more of a single breasted person- for whatever reason I feel like double breasted blazers just dont do anything for me. I do love them, however, for their classic aspect. The following outfit embodies why us preps just love a good blazer:

Fig & Olive Meatpacking

Fig & Olive is a well known mediterranean restaurant with multiple locations in the city as well as a location in West Hollywood. I have been to the Upper East Side location here in the city- you can read more about that here.

More recently, I tried the Meatpacking location. Featured in scenes from Million Dollar Listing New York, the space is definitely great. The Meatpacking location is much more spacious when compared to the cramped UES townhouse setting. However, I am disappointed to say that the experience is nothing to speak highly of as with the other location.

While the food, I must admit, is good, the service was absolutely horrible. I enjoyed a chicken dish and my friend had a great mushroom risotto. We both got a strawberry dessert, which I of course had to feature to the right.

The service: not once did our waiter check in with us during our meal. We waited over half an hour for our dessert. I had to resort to flagging down other waiters and busmen to check on the status. After finally receiving the dessert, it was probably another 20 minutes until we received the check and it was taken back for processing. Needless to say, nothing like this should ever happen at an upscale restaurant such as this.

5 Random Monday Thoughts

The calendar turns to August and a week has already flown by....summer where have you gone?!? I feel like this summer has been such a blur, and I havent done everything that one should do in summer. Im dying to get back to the beach, but with so much to do as the start of school rapidly approaches, I just dont see it happening.

  • The weather has been warm and sunny, but my tan is fading by the day....working life!
  • My newest obsession is British clothing brand Jack Wills...do you own anything from them?
  • Planning (hopeful) labor day weekend activities...why does Amtrak have to be the biggest rip off on the East coast...any recommendations?
  • Im contemplating a Facebook "break". I think it will be good.
  • The best way to spend the remaining summer nights is with a good cocktail on the roof. Thats just what I did Saturday evening.

East Village Happy Hour

Spontaneous week night outings are one of my favorite things to do. The East Village isnt an area of the city that I can say I love, but I know many people do adore it. I was talking with a friend, explaining that I should venture into the east village more often since there are a TON of good restaurants in the area.

My friend started telling me about some of her favorite restaurants in the East Village, one being Yuca Bar. Every Tuesday at Yuca is "Loco Tuesday" Until 8pm, you can take advantage of drink specials that are only $6 and half price Tapas. The drinks are very strong as well- I could barely drink my margarita!

We got an array of amazing tapas, I had a mojito, and we also ordered a pitcher of white sangria. This may be my new Tuesday night activity.
