Breitling Releases Naval Aviation-Inspired Avenger Bandit

Breitling has released a new watch inspired by naval aviation, the Avenger Bandit, and it is no disappointment. This watch is for the serious watch-lover and embodies all the rich heritage and detail you come to expect from a Breitling.

With its 45mm titanium case, its gray 'stealth' look, its 'military rubber' strap and its high-performance mechanical movement, the new Avenger Bandit more forcefully than ever embodies daring feats and extreme missions.

The timepiece pays hommage to the aviation world with its ultra-sturdy titanium case, a favorite metal in the field of aviation. This watch is built to perform and is crafted to be durable. The satin-brushed finished eliminate any undesirable glinting in the heat of action. This finish is carried through to the gray color dial with tone-on-tone counters which feature a luminescent coating to ensure visibility in low-light situations.

The watch is water-resistant to 1,000 ft, and features a powerful self-winding chronograph on the inside- the Breathing Caliber 13 which is officially chronometer-certified by the COSC. This watch is a token of superior reliability and precision, and should not be taken lightly.

Exclusive: Interview with Lionstone Watches Founder Daniel Kampf

I always love the world of timepieces and exploring what is new. Watches are a great way to accessories any outfit, whether dressy or casual, and can make great heirlooms that stay in families for generations. While Baselworld just finished in Switzerland and showcased the true luxury world of horology, some of pieces are quite expensive.

I was recently introduced to Lionstone watches and immediately fell in love with the affordable luxury approach that founder Daniel Kampf is using to build his brand. Lionstone watches embody the idea of high-end, luxury without the high price tags that come with some brands. Kampf believes that everyone should be able to afford a beautiful, modern watch that is built to last.

The brand is launching a new superslim ceramic line which is made from high-tech ceramic resulting in a durable and stylish timepiece. The best part? This new ceramic line will start at only $149. I love the sleek design which gives the watch a contemporary feel that can be both dressed up or down. I asked founder Daniel Kampf a few questions about his brand, the new watch, and his vision for the future of the brand.

LTPG: How did you get interested in the fashion and specifically timepieces?

DK: I have always loved fashion but I think my interest spiked when I left school and started to travel around Europe and Russia. The importance of fashion, in my opinion, is often underestimated. Dressing properly opens doors you didn't even know existed. I found that self-tied silk bow ties, for example, even work as a conversation starter. People are interested in you when you are dressed sophisticated. I got my hands on "The Preppy Handbook" a couple of years ago and never looked back.

For me, timepieces are an important part of fashion but there is more to it. I read somewhere that people check their wrist around 50 times a day on average. I certainly do. It is hard to describe but when you wear an alluring watch and you check the time, there is this short burst of pleasure and satisfaction that goes along with realizing what time it is. It's just a fleeting feeling, hard to grasp. But it's there. Some things go out of style but a beautiful timepiece never will. It will make you happy over and over again.

LTPG: What prompted you to start your own company and follow the path of an entrepreneur?

DK: I come from an entrepreneurial family. When I grew up, everyone around me had their own business and I became accustomed to this way of life. I knew from an early age that this is the path for me. During my studies of Business Administration I briefly worked as a fashion consultant for Hackett London. I loved the interaction with the clients and enjoyed helping them look their best. I consulted a few grooms on their wedding outfits which are definitely memories worth having. But, life is short and you should do what makes you happiest. Everything else is a waste of time. Being an entrepreneur is, and always was, the only thing that makes sense to me.

LTPG: We all have seen prices rising over the years from major design houses and quality decrease. How are you committed to change this?

DK: We change the issue of rising prices and quality decrease by not even starting with this habit. I always felt it is wrong to sacrifice build quality in order to turn a higher profit. Our timepieces are not expensive, and yet the quality is superior to almost everything else in our price segment. This commitment to excellent quality at a reasonable price is the very foundation of the Lionstone brand. We will keep prices steady and reasonable.

Furthermore, we really despise planned obsolescence. No one likes things that break after the warranty runs out. For us, it was never an option to go down that road. To underline this principle, we give our customers a 3-year limited international warranty on all of the watches that are purchased through our Indiegogo campaign. This warranty is going to be extended up to 10 years if we reach the right sales volume. When you grow up in Germany you really value quality and reliability. It was therefore natural for us to implement this into our brand.

LTPG: Why do you personally love the new ceramic watch?

DK: What I really love about our high-tech ceramic is how it feels on your wrist. You can't really compare the material to anything conventional. It is harder than stainless steel and yet it feels more cozy and warm when wrapped around your wrist. I like the sleekness as well. The case has a height of just 6 mm and this is what makes the Superslim Ceramic so contemporary and stylish. We took great care in taking the best photographs of our watch but we all feel that they still don't do it justice.

The best part about this watch is that our high-tech ceramic material doesn't allow for permanent stains. This is of particular importance when it comes to the women's Alpine White model. Even after several years of constant wear, the watch will look as shiny and bright as when you first opened the box it came in. The Superslim Ceramic is my first created timepiece and it will always feel special to me. I wanted to create a beautiful, reliable and reasonably prized watch and I feel that I succeeded with this model.

LTPG: Who is the ideal "Lionstone" customer?

DK: The ideal Lionstone customer is really everyone who wants a beautiful timepiece that is built to last. The details and materials that we have invested in our watches give them an eye-popping quality, yet the ceramic material is comfortable enough for casual, everyday wear. It's a great timepiece for anyone looking for a timeless, day-to-night watch.

Our watches are priced for someone who is not ready to spend half a month's salary on a watch, but enjoys owning something alluring but reliable that will keep him/her happy for years to come. This makes Lionstone a great choice as the first piece for a budding watch collector.

Because we are crowdfunding, our watches also appeal to fashion-forward people who are always ahead of the curve. We are a new brand with a mission to change the watch industry, and our Indiegogo campaign gives true trendsetters the first chance to own a cutting-edge accessory.

LTPG: How do you envision Lionstone expanding moving forward?

DK: After the Indiegogo campaign we will work on increasing our customer base for our Superslim collection on an International level. At the same time we will start developing a new model with an automatic movement. We will test a range of different automatic movements for precision, reliability, shock absorption and destruction. An assessment center for automatic movements if you will. We are also looking into the possibility of creating our very own automatic movement. So whichever movement we will chose, the Lionstone brand's principles of quality, reliability and affordability will be perpetuated. As these things take a lot of time and dedication our automatic model will presumably be ready to hit the market in Summer 2016.

Baselworld 2015 Salon Preview

If you are into timepieces like myself, Baselworld is probably on your radar. The event, huge in the watch world, is quickly approaching. This year's exhibit will be held March 19-26 in Basel, Switzerland to showcase the newest pieces and trends in Swiss timepieces for 2015. The location is picturesque and I love the modern architecture of the exhibition gallery.

I have been fortunate to get a sneak peek at some of the latest watches that will be debuting this year at Baselworld 2015. The amount of timepieces on display can be overwhelming, however, I have curated a selection of a few from the salon that have caught my eye.

Breitling Chronoliner

This new model from Breitling takes inspiration from a model dating back to the 1950s and 60s. The brand is known as the "official supplier to world aviation" during this era, and the new Chronoliner pays homage to the brand's aeronautical tradition. ts distinctive features include a broad scratch-resistant high-tech ceramic bezel with a star-shaped cut-out that facilitates handling as well as white ceramic numerals creating an optimal contrast. The second timezone is easily read off by means of a red-tipped hand together with a 24-hour graduated rotating bezel equipped with an ultra-accurate ratcheted system. The timepiece is done in a 48mm polished steel case with a mechanical automatic chronometer.

Burberry Britain Icon Limited Edition

I am loving this new limited edition (20 pieces) by Burberry. It has a modern, updated feel from some of the watches of the past and incorporates the heritage check in a subtle way. Additionally this model was designed by Burberry CEO Christopher Bailey. The timepiece is done in 45mm polished and brushed anthracite DLC-treated titanium case complete with black alligator strap.

Chopard L.U.C Qualité Fleurier

Chopard presents a timepiece which has one of the most prestigious certifications in the world of horology, the Fleurier Quality. The brand is indeed the one that has had the most watches certified by the Fleurier Quality Foundation since the creation of the much-coveted label, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2014 Foundation. Done in 18K pink gold with a mechanical automatic movement, this watch will pair well with business attire to make a statement.

Breguet Tradition Automatique Seconde Rétrograde

Breguet’s latest creation, the Tradition Automatique Seconde Rétrograde 7097 pays tribute to the “souscription” and “tact” watches made by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the late 18th century. Like them, its mechanism reveals the bridges, wheels, escapement, barrel and various other parts that are normally placed beneath the plate. The small offset dial at 12 o’clock – another characteristic of the great master’s legendary “à tact” watches – on the new Tradition 7097 model is overlapped by a retrograde seconds segment promoting optimal readability. I love the combination of the delicacy of the roman numerals and sub-dial mixed the the modernity of the skeleton dial. Available in 18K white or pink gold.

This is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the hundreds of watches that will be debuted at Baselworld. I am enjoying the trends I am seeing, and I also love the homage to their heritage that a lot of brands are showing with their newest models. I look forward to the exhibit opening at the end of this month!

Latest Styles from Raymond Weil

Swiss watch brand, Raymond Weil, has released some new styles for 2014 that I am loving. I selected some of my favorite pieces during the summer, and have found some new favorites in the recent releases. While the brand continues to stick to its core collections such as the Maestro and Nabucco collections, the collections receive new updates with both classic and sport styles available from the fine watchmaker.

This season, Raymond Weil is placing an emphasis on its skeleton watches from the Freelancer Collection as well as sporty pieces from the Nabucco and Parsifal Collections. Below are some of my top picks from Raymond Weil.

Skeleton Freelancer

The Freelancer collection, drawing its name from the fact that Raymond Weil is one of the last free standing watch makers, is a collection that is always redefining itself. The skeleton model shown, featuring an automatic movement brings a bit of modernity in a subtle fashion with the window showcasing the movement on the dial. I see this piece paring well under a slim-fitting suit for an interview or business occasion as well as being worn on the weekend in a more sporty fashion.

Inverso Special Edition

This is, perhaps, one of the most eye-catching timepieces among my selections. I love the mechanical, sporty styling of this piece which is taken from the Nabucco Collection which is known for this edge. The Nabucco collection has been with the brand since 2007. This limited edition Inverso is made of steel and titanium and features a chronograph dial. I envision this timepiece being worn out on the boat in the summer and during apres-ski in the winter. The technical aspect is perfect for the active man.

Parsifal Automatic Chronograph

My last pick, while sporty, offers an air of classic aesthetics compared to the Inverso, perfect for the man that loves traditional style. The roman numeral dial and rose gold accents mixed with an alligator strap give off an air of quality and sophistication. The Parsifal Collection is all about staying true to classic aesthetics, and uses materials such as mother of pearl, diamonds, and rose gold in both the women's and men's collections.  My favorite aspect of this particular timepiece is its functionality (water resistant up to 100m) crafted in an elegant fashion. This watch can easily transition from the office or boardroom to the golf course or boat.

Which pick is your favorite?

Philip Stein Launches New Watches For Women

We all know that I love a good timepiece. This time, the focus is on watches for women from the innovative brand Philip Stein. The lifestyle brand which incorporates wellbeing technology into their timepieces is launching a new holiday collection with pieces starting at $575 in both single and dual timezone models.

Updates include the signature logo in the number 8 position on the dial and hints of rose gold throughout. The Signature and Prestige lines will be showcased with diamond accented dials and come with colorful straps in both leather and alligator. The Prestige will feature a white or black strap while the Signature collection introduces purples and greys.

The model above features the signature dual zone time displays, a trait for which Philip Stein is known. Rose gold accents throughout compliment the metallic white ostrich strap.

I love the color of the new purple being introduced. This model also features 52 diamonds around the bezel for a total weight of .78ctw completed with the Italian leather strap.

As always, both models include the revolutionary Natural Frequency Technology. This technology, similar to an antenna, channels natural frequencies towards the body for healthy living.

I think these new models would make perfect gifts for the lady that loves watches as we (yes, already) approach the holiday season.

Raymond Weil Releases New Style

A few months ago, I previewed some of the key styles for the season from Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil. They recently added blue to the popular Maestro Line.

The Maestro collection comes in an array of colors and dial choices, however, I am loving the addition of blue to the collection. The blue will be great for pairing with things such as navy blazers or suits. It would even pair will with a more casual outfit such as the one I recently based around a military shirt, a go-to fall style.

The new Maestro features a mechanical automatic movement with a 38 hour power reserve. The timepiece is enclosed in a stainless steel case on a black leather strap. Retail: $1,395.

Elegant Timepieces from Raymond Weil

I love timepieces and have quite a little collection. For me, a watch is a great way to add interest to an outfit and make a statement. RAYMOND WEIL, a Swiss family owned company, was founded in Geneva in 1976. Precision inspirations the watchmakers at RAYMOND WEIL, and they are always looking to music and the arts for inspiration for their collections. This season, the company has 3 key styles: The Maestro, the Freelancer, and the Nabucco.

1. Maestro: The Maestro collection symbolizes the attachment of the founding family and owner of RAYMOND WEIL to its roots, but also to its permanent source of inspiration, music. This year, the collection is enhanced with new prestige. The Maestro collection comes in an array of colors, dials, and choices as it embodies the mastery of the Swiss watchmaker. Shown: mechanical chronograph with automatic winding power reserve with rose gold coating. $2,895.

2. Freelancer: WIth the Freelancer, RAYMOND WEIL is giving new life to its chronograph, now a best seller in the Freelancer collection which has been successful since its launch. With its steel case, black galvanic dial, and hints of red, the new Freelancer is what RAYMOND WEIL calls "Simply Class." Freelancer is a name that recalls that RAYMOND WEIL is one of the last independent watchmakers. This model features a mechanical chronograph with automatic winding. Available in leather or stainless steel bracelet. $2,995.

3. Nabucco: This is my personal favorite for the season. To me, this watch has a great, subtle edginess to it. It is a great mix of power, design, and elegance. The Nabucco collection is inspired by the famous opera by Giuseppe Verdi. The entire Nabucco collection is racy and elegant, appealing to connoisseurs around the world. Titanium and stainless steel case featuring a mechanical chronograph with automatic winding. $5,450.

What Im Wearing on My Arm

Remember the days of when you never wore a watch? It seemed like more hassle to put one on and never look at it than go without. There is one point, then, when you receive that special timepiece or find that eye catching watch that no one else has, and the rest history. I've become dependent on my watch, and on the rare days I forget to slip it on I feel naked.

I am a huge lover of timepieces, especially big ones. Even though I have many options to choose from, I find myself wearing the same one practically every day. So why not mix it up a little and add some interest with bangles? It has become quite trendy to load up your arms with bracelets upon bracelets. I like to keep the trend to a minimum.

I mixed black Hermes bangles with a black watch. I thought the ceramic of the watch look great with the matching ceramic in the bracelets. I would not wear this every single day, but its fun to mix things up a little. A change from my normal silver Roadster to a sport black ceramic Chanel watch and bangles...why not?

Spice Up Your Timepiece

Happy Friday!
I recently got into wearing some sort of bracelet alongside of my timepiece. I am loving the braided leather with silver creations by designers such as John Hardy and David Yurman as well as the enamel cuffs as well. This look is similar to the "stock" that everyone was so into, but I like to keep mine a bit more refined with only two additional pieces maximum.
