The Skyline Says It All

Every city major city is characterized by at least one special thing, whether its the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Hollywood sign in LA, the Opera house in Sydney, or the Empire State Building in New York, each of these cities has something that makes it come to mind.

It's not just these structures within the city that tells its story. The skyline of a city also tells its story, and some skylines are famous throughout the world. Here are some of my favorite, iconic skylines. You can probably tell the city without even reading it!

Of course my favorite skyline is my own. There is just something about the New York skyline that never gets old:

Artistic in SoHo

I have been having many moments recently where I stop, and think "I Love My City." I had one the other evening. I was strolling around SoHo during the late evening, waiting to meet a friend. I looked up while sitting at the Mercer and saw this:

Where else but in New York can one look up and find a vintage Porsche perfectly placed in front of a Balenciaga opening. It felt quite artistic to me.

Love Your City

Every city has its own special places, characteristics, vibe, and charm that make it unique. I am fortunate to love in one of the best cities in the world. One that has shopping, dinning, and cultural that cannot be rivaled by many other cities. When you love in a place, its easy to get distracted so to speak and forget how beautiful the place you call home truly is. The other night I had one of those moments that made me remember just how luckily I am to call the vibrant city of New York home.

While rushing across 42nd street on the way to an event, I happened to glance up and see this:

Grand Central was looking beautiful as ever with the Chrysler Building shining in the background. My city is a wonderful place that I do love. Having a moment like this is a good thing every now and then. What do you love about your city?

Travel Dreams 2013

Travel is something I love. I think it is such a great way to discover not only new places, but also one's self and what one loves. With hectic schedules year round, I never know where I will end up, however, I can only dream that I will make it to some of these locations in 2013:

The Almafi Coast

Stretching along the southern coast of Italy, the Amafi Coast attracts thousands of tourists each year. I have been lusting over photos of the area for a while now. The beautiful beaches and mediterranean climate are calling my name. See as I have not yet been to Italy, this would be a great way to start!

Courchevel

I recently took up skiing for the first time while on a trip to Aspen. You can read more about Aspen at Skimbaco Lifestyle here and here. I really want to try skiing on the other side of the pond- Europe that is. Courchevel is situated in the French Alps and has been ranked as one of the top ski destinations in Europe.

Paris

Simply put, Paris is always a good idea. It is one of my favorite cities in the world and I miss it dearly. I have experienced Paris during the winter and early spring months but would love to be able to stroll around the beautiful streets during the summer.

Barcelona

Barcelona is an architecture and art lover's dream city. Filled with beautiful buildings and a rich history the city just looks stunning. It looks like the city offers a ton to see, not to mention it is right next to the beach. A win win in my book!

As 2013 gets underway, where are you dreaming to travel?

Suburban Sunset

Living the faced paced, non-stop lifestyle that urban living demands can definitely be draining at times. Fortunately, a few weekends ago I had the opportunity to escape the hectic city for slow paced suburban life. It's always nice to get a way for a bit.
Certain things go forgotten when you are surrounded by concrete giants on all four sides, namely sunsets. I captured this photo on a fall night out in the middle of nowhere. Its quite lovely isnt it?
Its refreshing to see the colors swirled in the fall sky. Its even more refreshing to reconnect with these things and take a moment to reflect.

Loving Fall

As October already nears its end, we are fully into the fall season. Of all the changes of seasons, I find fall to be the most refreshing as cooler temperatures are ushered and everyone gets back into that school and work grind.

Fall calls for sweaters, pumpkin flavors, lattes, and of course wonderfully color leaves. While we may not have all the trees here in the city, fall is sill a wonderful time to be here. When you do catch a glimpse of that tree that is few and far between with red leaves, it makes it that much better. It was looking like fall on my pinterest as well:

Fall Wardrobe Inspiration

The midweek slump calls for a little pick me up. After an excruciating exam this afternoon, its only necessary that I turn to Pinterest for a little fall wardrobe inspiration.

These images capture so many things I love about fall dressing. Namely, mixed textures and wool. I love classic intarsia on sweaters...especially fair isle. I also love pulling out those Vineyard Vines quarter zips and the richness of dark leathers that are appropriate for the season.

Spring Around Town

It's fun to stop and slow down a bit and take note of the signs of this beautiful season. Weather its flowers in full bloom, gorgeous weather, or making the transition from hot to iced Starbucks the signs of spring are everywhere. It really is one of the best seasons. And everything always looks a little better through instagram.

Prepsters Here to Stay

GQ recently published a street style gallery entitled "The Best of Tommy Ton: Preppy Style." Of course as soon as I saw this, I had to read it. The street photos from NYFW capture the epitome of East Coast style. Im glad its here to "stay", but I just hope this doesnt mean it will be trendy because I'd rather be classic than trendy.

"Who says prepsters are on the way out? If the men our street-shooting man captured this year are any indication, upper-crust East Coast swagger isnt going anywhere any time soon."

Check out the full gallery and post on GQ's website

Heres a few of my favorite looks from the gallery:

New York Holiday Windows

Its a tradition to stroll 5th avenue each year and look at the holiday windows that all the stores put up. Bergdorf Goodman never ceases to amaze with their over the top displays. However, the Cartier package just might be my favorite every year.
