Elevate your Self Care Routine with Hawthorne

Men's shaving cream and shaving gel by Hawthorne

In the shuffle of transitioning from the Holiday season to starting a New Year, sometimes it is easy to de-prioritize ourselves, focusing on larger resolutions - getting a promotion, losing weight, etc.

However, 2022 is about keeping a focus on all the self-care routines we discovered during the Covid pandemic. If there was one thing that the pandemic brought to light for most of us, it was the realization that self-care is truly a must, and most of us were likely so busy moving from one thing to the next that we didn't have much of a focus on self-care.

Whether it is as simple as placing your favorite scents throughout your home that evoke a sense of calm or happy, or making a bigger focus on treating your body well - skin, shower routine, etc - putting an emphasis on self-care does not have to be a challenge.

One brand in particular that can help men elevate their routines and make self-care a priority in 2022 is Hawthorne.

Meet Hawthorne

Hawthorne was founded in 2016 by Brian Jeong and Phil Wong and has been designing modern personal care products for men. Their brand features the sleek modern aesthetic and luxurious fragrances you know and love from designer brands that cost $300+ for cologne, but at a fraction of the price thanks to their direct to consumer business model.

hand wash and candle styled on throw blanket

I was able to try the Hawthorne Handwash and Candle. You can purchase these two popular items in either the Smoky and Earthy Home Upgrade or the Citrus Home Upgrade.

The packaging has a very sleek and modern feel, on par with today's top brands. I found the scents to be strong but not overpowering. The candle had no problem filling a large living/dining area with fragrance. The Smoky and Earthy scent reminds me of some of my favorite fragrances from popular brands like Diptyque and Tom Ford.

I also love that all Hawthorne products are
  • Sulfate-Free.
  • Paraben-Free.
  • Silicone-Free.
  • Phthalate-Free.
  • Cruelty-Free.
  • Personalized and Tailored to Your Preferences

Through a short 5 minute quiz, Hawthorne's algorithms tailor all products to you based on your responses to the questions. This helps them determine attributes such as skin type, hair length, and shower frequency. You will also have the option to purchase a data informed subscription or do a one-time purchase.

As we head into the remainder of 2022, remember, self-care is never selfish!

Fragrance is one of my favorite and easiest ways to transform the feeling of a space. The power of scent transports us to another world and connects us with memories. Scented candles are great any time of the year, but they are especially great during the Holiday Season, casting a cozy glow and filling your space with scents of the season.

Whether you are looking to fill your home with the scent of a freshly cut Christmas tree or a crackling fire, these candles will add an instant touch of the Holiday season to your home.

    1. Diptyque Flocon Candle Limited Edition

Each year Diptyque released a limited-edition candle for the season, and this year it is Flocon. The flacon, or snowflake, candle reveals notes of white musk mixed with honeyed accents of mimosa and winter bloom.

    Available at Bluemercury

    2. Cire Trudon Christmas Gloria Candle

Enjoy not only a luxe seasonal fragrance, but also a beautiful blown glass vessel from what is rumored to be Marie Antoinette’s favorite candle company. Christmas Gloria from Cire Trudon is a woody-heavy scent with notes of spice throughout.

    Available at Saks

    3. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Pain D'Épices Candle

This candle will evoke all the childhood memories of building a gingerbread house filled with sweet delights. Pain d’epices has notes of orange, honey, cinnamon, and anise.

    Available at Saks Fifth Avenue

    4. NEST New York Holiday & Birchwood Pine Scented Candle

Perhaps the most fitting and synonymous with Holiday candles is the Birchwood Pine scent from nest. Fill your home with the aromatic scent of a freshly cut tree. This special Holliday set includes both Holiday and Birchwood scents.

    Available at Nordstrom

    5. Jo Malone Glowing Embers Candle

Evoke the aura of a cozy den or library with a crackling fire, fresh log just tossed on, with this hand-poured candle from Jo Malone. Glowing Embers has very strong notes of smoke (in a good way) and woods.

Diptyque Fragrances for Personal and Home

While I do wear colognes throughout the entire year, I find myself consistently wearing fragrance throughout the fall and winter months. Perhaps this is because I'm attracted to more musky, woodsy scents that are nice compliments to these seasons. I also find myself burning candles regularly starting around this time of the year as well.

With recent additions to my home and personal fragrance collections from one of my favorite perfumers, Diptyque, it is needless to say that good scents are on my mind! You probably will not open a magazine and see an ad for Diptyque or even glance up at a billboard with their name, however, this iconic French perfumer has been crafting quality fragrances since its inception in 1961. The brand has evolved to include a large olfactory range and products for both personal and the home. It is quite popular among the fashionable crowd as the highly recognizable "oval", unique to the brand" mixes well with an minimal interior designs.

As the fall season is underway and we will begin to slowly enter winter, seasonal scents come to mind such as the small of a warming, wood fire. I love the scent of a woodsy candle burning in the home on a chilly fall day. Needless to say, Diptyque makes one of the best fragrances of this nature. You can find their classic "Feu de Bois" burning in my house throughout the season. One of my reasons for loving Diptyque is the sheer array of fragrances that they offer. From relaxing "Feuille de Lavande" to the Feu de Bois described above, there really is something for any personality to love.

Fragrances make a great gift as the holiday season approaches as well. Do you find yourself burning more candles during the fall and winter seasons? What are your favorites?

If you follow my posts or social media accounts, you have probably picked up on my love for Nespresso. I was introduced to the world of Nespresso about two years ago when I received and started using my first machine. Since that point in time, I admit, that no other at-home brew system compares to the Nespresso machine.

Recently, I purchased the newer Vertuoline machine which brews rich, foamy, coffees in addition to espressos. I have been enjoying the machine since bringing it home, and I am excited to bring to you some great fall coffee recipes by Nespresso. Whether you use a Nespresso or not, these recipes are great inspiration for your coffee beverages this season. If you do use a Nespresso, share your favorite recipes and thoughts below!

    The Coffee Table Book

I go through phases of getting very into decorating my apartment and interior design. I had a short flint with prints, a love of candles fueled by Diptyque and NEST fragrances, and a love of bar accessories.
While spending time with a friend recently, I was reminded of one of my other current obsession in terms of apartment and home decorating- the coffee table book.

The coffee table book is great because they often look sleek on the table, but serve as a great conversation starter at parties or when guests are visiting. You can find them about virtually any topic. I   tend to gravitate towards the ones from designers such as Ralph Lauren or Chanel . I love the images that often look through the life of the designer or past collections.

A recent afternoon was spent perusing Tom Ford by Tom Ford. Paired with some Moet RosĂ©, what could be a better way to spend a relaxing afternoon?

    Nest Fragrances

Recently, I have been enjoying shopping for home decor and accessories. I have been filling my apartment with great finds, ranging from art to decorating with memories. Part of my recent focus on home has included candles. There is something relaxing about getting home from a long day and having a glass of wine and lighting a candle to make the apartment smell great.

I had heard about Nest Fragrances for quite some time through the likes of the infamous Bergdorf's Instagram account and seeing other industry insiders raving about them. The story behind the brand is quite interesting, launching in 2008 in Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman, and serving as a go-to for clients such as Tory Burch, Calvin Klein, NARS, and Ralph Lauren.

I finally got my own Nest candle, and I must say, the scent is amazing! I have the grapefruit scent  which is incredibly fresh and vibrant, yet relaxing at the same time.

Have you tried or do you use Nest fragrances? I would love to know what your favorite scent is. I know a lot of people rave about the holiday scents, so that may be my next purchase!
