Patched Up

Warm weather and spending time in the suburbs calls for one thing: preppy to the max. Unless I'm running around the Upper East Side, this outfit would surely get looks in the city. Thats the one thing I love about the suburbs: its classic, preppy style.
The summer patch print from Lilly Pulitzer's summer collection is one of my favorite prints. Naturally I had to have the shorts.

shorts: Lilly Pulitzer

STK West Hollywood

Why choose STK in WeHo when we have2 of our own in New York? I have heard from multiple sources that the original in LA beats the ones in New York, and seeing as I havent made it to the one in New York yet, I figured I would give it a try.

STK is in the ranks of those trendy restaurants where everyone pulling up the valet in their Range Rovers and Mercedes is getting up of the car while pulling down their Herve dresses and trying not to fall in their sky-high Louboutins.
Inside, the atmosphere is great. White booths capped with faux alligator are surrounded by many, many dark pink orchids. The tables are all semicircles so you can take a look around at all those beautiful people dining with you.
The food was great. While it is known for its steaks (STK), no one at our table got a steak. We opted for fish and chicken. But a word of advice: GET the truffle fries...amazing.

Buddakan New York

A friend and myself celebrated the end of the semester and the beginning of summer by heading to Buddakan located in the swanky Meatpacking District. Buddakan is an asian fusion Stephen Starr restaurant.
From the street, its just a plain black box, literally. No windows, just the door to enter. However, upon entry you are instantly in a cool, trendy atmosphere with the bar and large dinning room located in the back. The main dinning area is incredible. The ceilings are very tall, and a large chandelier hangs over a long communal table. It almost has a gothic meets Hogwartz dining hall vibe.

The find is great in my opinion. We ordered a mix of various dumplings. The edamame dumplings are a must. Ive never experienced anything like them....amazing! And for dessert, we ordered the sorbet and a "Crying Chocolate Cake"...also a must!

A West Coast Question

Its been a week since my last visit here....where have I been you may ask? I've been on California time in LA for the past week. I'm becoming pretty familiar with the city and I must say, I think it's calling my name. With each trip I further release my inner angelino: chemical peels, vegan food with Ellen Degeneres at RFD, and large sunglasses at all times. I found it, however, much easier to get caught up in the material world here on the west coast even more so than in new York....I mean have you seen the people walking down the street in west Hollywood?! Case made. But I pose these individuals a question: are you truly happy behind all that plastic surgery and those Tom Ford sunglasses? While I participate in trendy social affairs, I don't forget where I come from, a place that is far from this glitz and glam. It's because of this that I can see past that outer shell made of plastic and Botox. Nonetheless, I think I'm falling in love with you, LA. I see myself, a convertible, and the PCH in my future.

5 Random Monday Thoughts

This is going to be perhaps one of the most hectic weeks for me between the finals, the semester officially ending, and moving. This may be the only post I am able to squeeze in this week...sorry!

  • Time is flying be so quickly these past few days. I cant get everything done. The day needs to be 48 hours instead of 24
  • I officially got my apartment last week and the furniture buying process has commenced. I got a lot of good finds from Jonathan Adler

  • What's up with the weather again??! I feel like this has been the ongoing thing since the beginning of "winter". Its May, I want low 70s and sun
  • Im looking forward to having my life back after school to do things like relax, exercise, and enjoy the summer!
  • Im dying dying dying to get to France this summer, but the airline industry doesnt seem to want me to :(

Set Sail

I've been really itching to buy some new clothes, especially for summer. My list of needs wants is quite lengthy as always. I want some new chinos, drivers, oxfords among other things. If you name it, I'm sure its on my list!
Of course all these conflicts with my ever ongoing goal of spending less money on shopping on more on things like furniture for my apartment. However, I'm am happy to say that these amazing new Lilly shorts will be in my closet very soon.

Lets set sail towards summer

Ciao is See you Soon

The other night I had dinner with a friend/acquaintance that should remain anonymous through out this story. We all find ourselves in "ruts" in life and sometimes you just want something that puts a smile on your face...this is one of those stories for me.
I arrived at X's wonderful 5th avenue apartment- the walls are decorated with great art and the views are quite wonderful. The entire apartment smelled  like the chicken marsala that was on the stove- they are Italian after all.
We sat down to eat. Conversing over salad, bok choy, and chicken marsala about everything from traveling to what it was like for me to grow up in a rural area and then move to New York. There was a bit of gossiping to be had over the fresh strawberries and yogurt for dessert. I mean it isnt New York without a little gossip right?
So where does the smile come in? As I put on my jacket and walked towards the door, X says to me "Youre going to be a star. I know it. I should get your autograph while I still can". I just smiled- I wasnt sure exactly what to say. we exchanged "Ciaos" and I was out the door, walking down the hall with a little smile on my face. Its people like this where ciao is more like a see you soon than goodbye.
