Spice Up Your Timepiece

Happy Friday!
I recently got into wearing some sort of bracelet alongside of my timepiece. I am loving the braided leather with silver creations by designers such as John Hardy and David Yurman as well as the enamel cuffs as well. This look is similar to the "stock" that everyone was so into, but I like to keep mine a bit more refined with only two additional pieces maximum.

Derby Days

A lot of exciting events are coming up in the preppy world. The Carolina Cup is just a short time away, but  the big event, the Kentucky Derby, is just around the corner as well. Of course I love derby dressing...whats better than a lot of seersucker and embroidered pants in one location? Perhaps nothing.
Vineyard Vines launches a Derby collection each year. I even featured it last year!

This year's derby collection was recently released by Vineyard Vines, and of course Im loving it! Here's a few of my favorites for men:

Are you loving the Kentucky Derby collection, or even better, are you attending the event??

Im in it for the Fun

At a recent meeting pertaining to a magazine I'm involved with, a colleague brought up a recent article that she had read. The article was a blogger's discussion on why they blog and what motivates them. A very great point was made within the article.

"If you're going to take this so seriously, go to industry insiders"

With that said, I write this blog for fun, about topics i like- new places, travel, and fashion. I never claimed to be an expert on creating an outfit, for example. Perhaps a GQ column would be more appropriate if thats what you are seeking. To me, thats what blogging is all about: fun.

I hope you can all join me and see the fun instead of taking everything a tad bit too seriously.

Prepsters Here to Stay

GQ recently published a street style gallery entitled "The Best of Tommy Ton: Preppy Style." Of course as soon as I saw this, I had to read it. The street photos from NYFW capture the epitome of East Coast style. Im glad its here to "stay", but I just hope this doesnt mean it will be trendy because I'd rather be classic than trendy.

"Who says prepsters are on the way out? If the men our street-shooting man captured this year are any indication, upper-crust East Coast swagger isnt going anywhere any time soon."

Check out the full gallery and post on GQ's website

Heres a few of my favorite looks from the gallery:

5 Random Monday Thoughts

Back to another week it is. This past weekend seemed not only quick, but not very relaxing as well...im exhausted!

  • the semester is about to get really crazy with exams and projects...ugh!
  • We all knew that weather was too good to be true, but I still think it should have stayed around
  • I am not sure if Ive experienced anything more stressful and frustrating than trying to find an apartment
  • Im sure many of you have heard about the launch of Country Club Prep, but i am loving it!
  • I feel like im entering one of those parts of life where everyone starts going different directions :/

I may make this my motto:

Major Spring Fever

This weather has seriously given me a case of spring fever. Today its sunny, slightly breezy, and 75 outside. Trees are already in bloom. It really doesnt get much better. If only I had all the free time in the world to go outside and enjoy it.
Instead, Im prepping for an interview this afternoon.

Anyone else have a major case of spring fever?

LA Round Deux

Over spring break I took a short trip to Los Angeles. It always nice to get out of the hectic, stressful city for a little and what better way than with a little relaxed west coast vibe? You know a trip is off to a good start when 1) your domestic flight is not delayed and 2) you arrive to your gate 30 minutes earlier than scheduled.

We didnt really have a set schedule or list of things we wanted to do which I must say is kind of nice. We just got up each day and did things that we felt like or just hung out. So what did we end up doing? We spent a lot of time Soulcycling in West Hollywood, or as some like to call it "WeHo" :D. I must say, west hollywood seems like a lot of fun, but why is everyone so perfect looking?!

Numerous afternoons were spent in Beverly Hills eating, shopping, an walking around. If you havent been to the Montage, I highly recommend it! In my effort to transition to the LA lifestyle, I ate at numerous vegan restaurants, got a chemical peel, drank green juice, and hiked. I was told I am well on my way to being "LA".

One night we went to downtown to eat at the Palm which is also a well known spot here in New York. It was my first time downtown, so we walked around LA live, and went to the 24th floor bar of the Ritz there. The view is great, I definitely recommend!

Overall it was a nice little break, although I must say the weather was warmer here on the east coast the entire time! LA, I hope ill see you in the near future!

5 Random Monday Thoughts

I think I may only have 1 thought instead of 5 on this Monday and that is the WEATHER! Sun and 68....amazing.

  • Spring break is officially over :(. I will update about my trip to the west coast soon!
  • I cant stop looking at my weather widget because its going to be 78 on Thursday...yes 78 :D
  • Does anyone else get severely unmotivated when the weather gets nice?? Its so bad.
  • Has anyone watched GBC on ABC?...so funny!
  • Apartment hunting has commenced. Can you say stressful?!

Fashion Friday: Beverly Hills Shopping

What could be more appropriate for Fashion Friday today than shopping in Beverly Hills? It was a beautiful day in LA on saturday, so we took to the streets of BH!

What does one wear to shop on Rodeo? Thats a tough question. The california vibe is effortless and chic where we east coasters tend to put so much effort into everything. I went with gray denim, my rivieras, a polo, and of course, big aviators.

Stroll up on down Rodeo to shop the looks of Brooks Brothers, Missoni, Chanel, and Gucci among others. Turn off the ever crowded Rodeo onto Brighton way to slip into Emporio Armani. Stepping into Teuscher for a champagne truffle is a must- but beware: that lady passing you on the street with the giant Birkin is totally judging you for even holding chocolate. What is sugar?

A Few LA Essentials

Source: flickr.com via Leeann on Pinterest

Since Ill be jetting off to LA tomorrow, what better way hear about the best of the city than from someone who knows it inside and out?

Hello there Life Through Preppy Glasses readers! I am so honored to be guest posting today. Normally, I'm over at my blog, Join the Gossip, chatting about anything and everything. Stop by and say hi sometime. I love making new bloggin' buds!

Since the stylish owner of this here blog is always posting about the IT places in NYC - be it bars, restaurants, or shops - I thought I'd bring a little part of my side of the country to this fabulous blog! So let's take a tour of my city, Los Angeles.
Let's start with breakfast, first we'll head to Toast to savor a delicious breakfast as we sit on the patio located on trendy Melrose Avenue. After we've devoured our sweet treats and gulped up the last of our lattes, we'll do some shopping. First up is little boutiques and vintage shops like Buffalo Exchange, then high end shops like Alexander McQueen and DVF. Upon realizing that no matter how much we dream we just can't afford the clothes, we'll head over to do some more reasonable shopping at Marc Jacobs.

By now it should be about time for lunch so let's go to the center of Hollywood - Hollywood and Highland which is home to the Kodak Theater and home of the Oscars. This is the place to take in Hollyweird. From the Walk of Fame to the grown man in the Sponebob suit, people watching comes easy. Once we've pushed through the crowds, we can make a stop at Micheli's for some pizza, Hollywood's oldest Italian restaurant. To walk off our full tummies, we'll head over to an old prohabition bar tucked away right off Hollywood Boulevard called Boardner's. This cool, but errie, place is the last place The Black Dahlia was ever seen alive. They even have a drink named after her which we'll order, of course!

Since we've covered the Hollywood region let's get out of town for some slow paced beach time. We'll head to Santa Monica and stroll on the pier, take lots of scenic pictures, and maybe hop on a few rides before jumping back into the car and opening the sunroof as we drive down Pacific Coast Highway toward Malibu. Our final stop will be at Duke's. Our final mission is complete once we grab a window seat and watch the waves crash under the eatery while we sip on cocktails, dine on seafood, and enjoy the sunset.

So who wants to join me for the perfect day in LA?! I'd be happy to show you around :)

Rower Style

Hi, everyone! It’s Grace from Smile Couture! I’m so thrilled to be posting here today! Anyway, as I got to thinking about topics, I thought all of you prepsters might enjoy a little sports style, as we are a sporty type of people. Crew has always been renowned as a “preppy” sport, and while some rowers hate that, I embrace it! While we might not get as much style cred as equestrians do, rower style is definitely there to delve into. Here are some of my picks for adding a little regatta style to your wardrobe:

A Rower’s Essentials: A good watch is an absolutely necessity to any coxswain, and I love the handsome style of this Panerai Regatta watch! We also “stole” boat shoes from sailors; they’re perfect for slippery docks! Of course, sweatshirts are a necessity for cold days on the water, and the oars on this Ralph Lauren one are too great.
We invented it: But seriously. A striped, tipped blazer is literally the uniform of regatta officials, and a dime a dozen at Henley!
Our motif: Oars can be found everywhere if you look hard enough! These cufflinks and the tie bar…swoon!
How do you put your sport in your style?
Xoxo Grace

Thinking Spring with Joe Fresh

Last night I attended an event at Joe Fresh. A lot of you probably aren't familiar with the brand- I wasn't too familiar with them before they came to New York either! They are a Canadian based brand that I would describe as an upscale H&M. The line consists of both men and womens clothing and accessories. Their bright, orange shopping bag is their signature.

The store had drinks, hors d'oeuvres, and a DJ as shoppers mingled among the spring collection. It was refreshing to see navy/blue combinations and pastel colored sweaters. Spring is just around the corner. I stocked up on some new button downs and v-necks. (I guess my spending freeze is over then right?)

Have you begun shopping spring clothes already? What have been your favorite things so far?

In the Kitchen with Me

I would never claim to be good in the kitchen, or any sort of cook for that fact. The other night, a friend and myself decided we wanted to cook dinner. We finally decided on making some sort of tofu stir fry after trying to decide for what seemed like hours. Off to Food Emporium we went, sans recipe, sans list. The rest, in my opinion, is quite surprising.

I have to say, I surprised myself. Maybe cooking is my hidden inner talent? The stir fry came out pretty excellent if I must admit. So What was the recipe?

Our own Tofu Stir Fry
  • Tofu
  • Assortment of vegetables: we had tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, onions, etc.
  • Brown Rice
  • Garlic
  • Soy sauce

I started cooking the brown rice because the package told me it was going to take forever, and I had never in my life made rice before so who knew who that was going to turn out. I cooked the tofu in vegetable oil, garlic, and soy sauce until it was warmed through, and did the same for the vegetables. At the end, I combined the vegetables and tofu. Enjoy!
