Finally, En Route

After months of waiting, rescheduling, and Irene I'm finally moving back to NYC. I just hope this excitement isn't for nothing and that everything goes well and picks up where it left off! We got an early start...4 am!! Definitely going to be exhausted after waking up so early and the many little arguments that arise while moving.

*fingers crossed*

Stock Up on Polos for Back to School

Back to school season always means some new clothes, and what's more of an incentive than an amazing sale with a great company? The wonderful Lauren from Anchored Style informed me of their upcoming Polo promotion on Wednesday August 31(tomorrow!) This promotion will run for 24 hours.

via

For those of you not familiar with this brand, I can elaborate a little for you. Anchored Style is made in the USA, and aims to embody that relaxed, by the water, while still looking put together lifestyle that us prepsters have come to love. Prior to launching her company, Lauren worked in the fashion industry and brought this knowledge and insight to the drawing table when she decided it was time to launch her own brand. In order to create the best possible products for her target market, Lauren went out and personally interviewed college sailing teams and the US Sailing Team to see what they loved in apparel. Today, Anchored Style is growing at a rapid rate.

A little more about Anchored Style's polos.....their polos are lightweight and made up ofa 95% Pima Cotton/5% Spandex Blend.  They describe them as "for the person that wants to look instantly good without trying"...isnt that what we all want?! visit their website here for more details.

So what is this promotion?!? Its a Buy One Get One. Each polo retails for $68, so with this promo youre essentially getting them for $34...cant be that.

As a reader of Life Through Preppy Glasses, Lauren has provided the code "BOGOpolo" for you to take advantage of this offer.

Happy Shopping!

So long Irene, Hello Change of Plans

I'd like to give a huge, pushing you out the door quickly type of goodbye to Irene. I hope I never have to hear the name Irene again...for a really long time. If I do, I might just have a really unpredictable reaction. While I did have fun with Irene on twitter, thats about where the extent of fun ended.

I was supposed to be moving back to NYC today, and that got cancelled as of yesterday at 2:30...so much notice right? The amount of e-mails I was receiving during the storm from school was highly annoying, and looking back these e-mails were also highly misleading. There were many sent between the one that said move-in might be pushed back and the final one changing the plans. These messages in between had no mention of a change of plans. Sorry to say, but myself and my working parents do not just sit around waiting for an institution to delegate our plans...besides the fact that vacation hours come in limited numbers.

Needless to say, I am pretty angry. While we did not loose power or anything major like that, this "change of plans" has just added a large amount of stress and inconvenience to an already stressful week. I mainly blame this decision on the media that hyped of this storm beyond belief. I was not surprised at all when it was far less severe than they predicted.....but they get paid to do this?

On a closing note, my friend and I discussed that when we think of an Irene, we think of permed hair, smeared lipstick, and should pads. How do you envision Irene?

Now is the perfect time to remember this famous little poster:

Fashion Friday: Ralph Lauren Boots 2011

I was browsing Ralph Lauren when I stumbled upon their new boots for fall 2011. You may remember that I do love boots from this, especially Ralph Lauren's. I do own a few pairs, and the quality of the leather, ect. is amazing. Of the new collection, the following are some of my favorites:

Boots are perfect for the fall and winter. The short version shown above can be dressed up or worn casually. Nothing says preppy fall like a good pair of boots, jeans, and a rugby. What are you favorite brands of boots?

It looks like we have to brace ourselves for a hurricane here in the East. An earthquake earlier in the week and now a hurricane?!? What is this the end of the world?!. All I have to say is generators were literally flying out of CostCo yesterday, and this better not interfere with my back to school plans..although it kinda already did!

Time is Speeding

via

I remember moving home for the summer in May thinking how am I ever going to survive the next three and a half months here? It's hard to believe, but those 3.5 months have passed me by. Here I am getting ready to head back to school again. Time has a very funny way about it. Excitement dominates my emotions, but those feelings of uncertainty and nervousness  still exist.

This past summer was definitely different than any summer I was used to. I guess this is expected once you come back from college. I try to look back at some of the events as a learning experience, yet I still have regret and many mixed feelings about certain things. Understanding the way people are is certainly a challenge for me- am I few and far between for thinking most people lack common courtesy?

There is a lot to look forward to, however. While I may spend hours and what feels like my entire life at the library, I look forward to the challenge ahead. I look forward to being with friends I wasnt able to be with during the summer, and all I hope is that our friendships and relationships are the same prior to leaving. Everyone says once you get back and into the swing of things, everything is the same- personally, I have some hesitations about this.

As my last week of so called relaxation quickly passes by, I can feel myself slowly slipping into the "fast lane" so to speak. I tend to find myself best suited when I am constantly busy, but the onset of being overwhelmed with Financial Accounting problems and group presentations...well..overwhelms me. This week consists of tying up loose ends, running here and there for last minute essentials, and have dinners with family members. Oh, and did i mention packing? My pile has grown a little bit since earlier in the week:

Im keeping a close eye on the weather forecast, and lets all hope Irene, if she hits up, will be on sunday and not monday! Trekking all my stuff through a hurricane in NYC is not my idea of fun!

On Trend: Fall 2011

You've probably been reading about the new trends for Fall 2011 in your latest version of Vogue or GQ- color blocking, fur, the color Burgundy. I do not usually opt for trends, as I tend to wear classic, preppy styles. However, there is one trend this fall in men's that I love, because it looks like no trend at all: Anglo.

Take Me Back to Paris

Approximately 2 years ago I traveled to France. It was the first time I was out of the country, and I fell in love with Paris. I felt so insecure and lost in a foreign city, yet I felt comfortable enough to explore on my own- caught up in the culture and vibe of the city but still the timid American on the street all the same.

After realizing I was short on time, I had to gather up the courage to tell the nice waitress nous n'avons pas de temps pour manger maintenant. Was my accent ok? Could she even understand me?

I want to return to Paris for the food, the culture, the fashion, the art.

La mode me manque
La culture me manque
Paris me manque, J'espere que je te verrai bientot.

Icon: Nickelson Wooster

Many of you may have heard of this ex Bergdorf Goodman Men's  Fashion Director turned consultant for Gilt Man- he is one of the current, top fashion icons in my opinion. I like to think of him as the male version of Linda Fargo.

What makes him such a style icon that publications such as GQ turn to him at the start of a new season for his top picks? He knows how to dress and has true style. What do I mean by this? He isnt afraid to wear a camo jacket with a light pink shirt underneath, he is both edgy with his tattoos and beard while still remaining sophisticated in seersucker and pinstripe suits.

Having true style shows with his experimenting attitude- he's not afraid to wear things that are "unsafe" Many think that a man that knows how to dress well or wears fashion-forward things makes him feminine, ect. Wooster breaks this highly believed stereotype.

Wooster knows how to pair things exceptionally well, choose the right accessories, step out the door with impeccable tailoring, and still use Fresh Direct for his groceries like the rest of us.

Have a look for yourself:

Anchored Style Giveaway

I know I hit 100 followers a few weeks ago, but we're celebrating now. I'm teaming up with Anchored Style to host my second giveaway.

For those of you not familiar with this brand, I've taken the following from their "about" page which can be found on their website:

"Welcome to Anchored Style! In the words of Mark Twain, take a moment to "throw of the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, and catch the trade wind in your sails." The past year I have lived Twain's words and set out to "dream, discover, explore," and work my tail off. I spent my days searching for inspiration in the harbors and on the beaches near my home, and nights throwing myself into researching, planning, and designing my line. I reached out to local sailors, surfers, kite-boarders, sun-worshippers, and anglers for input. I poured my passion, integrity, determination and creativity into the designs and finally had the “surfer-prep” style I had envisioned. "

And now the good part:

This giveaway will be running today through August 17th at 11:59pm EST with the winner being announced next  Thursday!

One winner will receive a goody box from Anchored Style which includes the following:

Wordless Wednesday: Ivy League Style

While many of us may not go to an Ivy League school, we still dress the part. Classic "ivy league" or "campus style" is, of course, one of my favorite things.

Fashion Friday: Rag&Bone

Rag&Bone is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands. While they do make some things that are certainly not my style, they do make a lot of pieces that are preppy with a edgy or modern twist. Their sweaters, outerwear, and denim are among my favorites.

I recently purchased a few pieces from Bergdorf's, and bought some pieces from the Barney's Warehouse Sale in the past.
Here are my most recent Rag&Bone purchases:

sorry for the subpar Blackberry Photos

I also made the following Polyvore to show some more of what Rag&Bone is about.

Confession: Jonathan Adler Obsession

When it comes to clothes or fashion, I can put an outfit together and can usually offer good advice to others. However, when it comes to decorating I do not know a THING. I do know, though, that I love Jonathan Adler furniture or would die if my apartment was furnished by him.

The price of furniture is another thing I will never understand. $4,000 for a sofa...excessive? I wouldnt know, but it sounds like a lot to me. I could have posted a million things from the Jonathan Adler website, but I only selected a few things I like:

Obsessed with the anchor rug. It comes in multiple colors as well

who wouldnt want a lamp with dragons on it?

and to top it all off, this $900 leather Hippo

Do you love Jonathan Adler's products? Who is your favorite brand for furniture and decorations?
