Oscar Wilde Knows Best

It's time for a mini rant....

If there is anything I dislike (actually I dislike quite a lot of things) it is non-response from someone or being obviously ignored. When this is a good "friend" it makes it that much worse because we begin thinking are we actually friends or aren't we?

From past experiences, I noticed that when this behavior becomes noticeable its a foreshadowing of whats to come- a slow separation and drifting apart. Obviously this is something that can be semi difficult to come to terms with, especially when you aren't the one initiating this ignorance.

It's even easier to catch someone doing this because of Twitter, Facebook ect. Im a pretty smart person, so one's stupidity slyness is easily caught. This issue characterizes people of today, namely they are too afraid to say anything in person. If you want to drift apart- just tell me. I will initially, most likely, be offended but I'd rather you just tell me than kill a friendship with painful, slow, death.

I turn to one of my favorite authors, Oscar Wilde. His novels have amazing messages, and even more inspiring quotes

He writes, "Some cause happiness wherever they go; other whenever they go" - perhaps this is true...we may be better off without someone, but facing that fact often proves to be very difficult.

and the best thing that Wilde ever wrote, in my opinion:

"There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about"

I try to keep that in mind whenever you hear things about yourself you would rather not know was being said- at least im giving them something to talk about right??

  1. It's been a tough year for me in the friendship department. I had to come to terms with the fact that some of my very close friends just weren't the people I thought they were. It's hard coming to that realization, but it does make you even more grateful for the friends you can count on and have!

  2. I have two of OW's quotes listed as my faves on FB. One is the being talked about/not being talked about, and the ohter is:

"It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious."

Now, about this slow dying of a friendship. I do understand. I've killed a few of them msyelf. I will admit that perhaps it would have been better to just come out and say it, but honestly...it's never been without reason or without warning in my case. Somehow I tend to attract the most depressing, energy sucking, needy people I can find. And they want to be my BFF. And by the time I realize what has happened they have a girl crush on me, and it's like a break up.

Maybe I need to talk to a shrink about that.

Anyway, love the other OW quote you listed. And screw whoever has you bothered. They aren't worth it. Block them on FB :-o
